. . . wish you could go there for a vacation?

When I first started playing with the Stampin' Up! Christmas Lodge stamp set, I tried watercoloring it and decided it most likely would look best stamped in just one color.  I even shared that thought with a Godby with Us Stamper.

Boy, was I wrong!  Look at the beautiful lodge surrounded by majestic evergreen trees.

Watercoloring was a wash out, but the Stampin' Write Markers were up for the challenge.   When I decided to attempt coloring the stamp with the markers, I wondered if I would be able to find just the trees in the intricate detail of the stamp.  It was easier than I expected.   To make it easy on yourself, either look at the image on the clear-mount case, or if using a wood-mount set, stamp it on a piece of paper first.

The forest of evergreens was made by repeatedly stamping the single Christmas tree stamp over and over.  Do not reink every time.  The lighter color stamped images give the illusion of depth.   Also, overlap the images and stamp at different heights for a realistic forest.

My color choices are Wild Wasabi and Not Quite Navy stamped on Whisper White card stock

Of course I don't have a crystal ball, but stamp sets from the mini catalogs are limited-edition with only a slim chance of being seen again in the next big catalog.  But, I must say with my nearly 10+ years a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator, the realistic stamp sets have a shorter life span than cutesy stamps.  If I were a betting gal, and I'm not, I'd place my money on not seeing Christmas Lodge in again once the 2011 Stampin' Up! Holiday Mini Catalog expires on January 3, 2012.
